About the Project

Faces of the Town is a photographic archive of 1,075 portraits of people from Reykjanesbær, Iceland. The photographs were taken between 2015 and 2017 by photographer Björgvin Guðmundsson.

The project began in early 2015 as a small exhibition by Ljósop, a local photography association. It quickly grew into a broader portrait of the community, including people of different ages and backgrounds.

A large selection of the portraits was exhibited during the 2015 Ljósanótt cultural festival in Reykjanesbær.

The project has now been completed. This website is preserved as a digital photographic archive and a historical record of the people and community of Reykjanesbær during this period.

Some of the original portraits printed on aluminium for the 2015 exhibition are still available. Please contact us for further information.
